"All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story or tell a story about them."
- Isak Dinesen
"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”
- Buddha
“You have not lived a perfect day, even though you have earned your money, unless you have done something for someone who will never be able to repay you.”
- Ruth Smeltzer
"Anyone can become angry that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way this is not easy."
- Aristotle
"Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness."
- Edward Stanley
"We must commit to ourselves that we will recognize the payoffs and benefits we receive when we hold on to ego beliefs about who we are.
What am I getting by holding on to the belief that I have been betrayed? I am able to feel victimized. I am able to blame others. I am able to get sympathy. I am able to project guilt I have on to others. These are BIG benefits in the ego’s mind, but are really just suppressing the truth of who you really are. So I must ask myself: Do I want to be RIGHT about being betrayed, or do I want to be HAPPY?"
Sandra Levey-Lunden
"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
- Douglas Adams,
in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
"The more severe the pain or illness, the more severe will be the necessary changes.
These may involve breaking bad habits, or acquiring some new and better ones."
Peter McWilliams
"It is impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of one or more kittens."
- Cynthia E. Varnado
"How does one know what he should do (with his life)?
Let me make some suggestions: 1) Put yourself in God's hands with as deep a self-surrender as you know how to make. 2) Offer to Him Let go of whatever hinders think. 3) Look life square in the face. See and talk with people who know God and who know life. Don't ask them to decide for you, but learn from them. 4) Pray to know God's will for your life. Follow it where you know it in small things and you'll be much surer about it when it comes to life in-vestment. 5) Ask Him to make His will and His call known to you. 6) When the course seems reasonably clear, --nothing else pressingand having used all the lights you’ve have, launch into it with all you've got. The work given you by God is your parish just as my church is my parish. And you're meant to do the same things in it. Care for people and serve them and help them to find God and faith. 7) Keep your eye all the while on the Big Picture. Few are out for materialistic success they just find there isn’t any world left for them to be selfish in. 'He that saves his life shall lose it. He that loses life for Christ's sake the same shall save it.' "
Samuel M. Shoemaker, 195?
"To keep your character intact you cannot stoop to filthy acts. It makes it easier to stoop the next time."
- Katherine Hepburn

"Now about health: A body badly burned by alcohol does not often recover overnight nor do twisted thinking and depression vanish in a twinkling...." p 133, AA Text
We need a lot of work dealing with our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual damage. It would be good to remember to take good care of all parts of ourselves. Healthier thinking relys on a healthier body, mind, and soul. Every person is responsible for their own health. We are encouraged to get outside help if we get 'stuck' in one or more areas. Get help and use it a day at a time.

An alcoholic will continue to drink despite serious family, health, or legal problems. Like many other diseases, alcoholism lasts a person's lifetime; it usually follows a predictable course; and it has symptoms. . . ."
